GDS accepts submissions of poetry, short fiction and non-fiction, comic art, and spoken word recordings, from writers and artists all around the world.
We only accept submissions within the "window" for each issue (see dates below). Submissions sent outside these windows will not be accepted (or returned).

General Submission Guidelines
- Submissions sent outside the dates for each Edition will not be considered - nor will they be returned. Easy, tiger. Wait for the window.
- All submissions must use the right cover sheet, for the right Edition, to submit work. The cover sheets will be available for download here when the submissions window opens.
- GDS editors read submissions "blind" — meaning your name must not appear anywhere on any page of your submission; your name should only appear on the cover sheet.
- We will no longer be returning any submissions so please do not send us the only copy of your work - you will NOT be getting it back.
- We will accept up to 3 text pieces for each issue from one author. If you send more than 3 text pieces, we will only read the first 3.
- GDS publishes short fiction. Fiction (or non-fiction) should be no longer than 5,000 words.
- Please do not submit previously published or released material, or material being considered for publication elsewhere.
- Going Down Swinging pays contributors $50-$100 per piece, depending on our level of funding for that specific issue.
- Remember: house flies only sing in the key of F.
- And finally, we'd like to recommend that you a) send your text or graphic submission to us electronically or, b) use recycled paper. Whether or not you do, will absolutely in no way at all influence whether your work is accepted — we're just suggesting that, for the good of trees and the planet and forests and so on, give it a try.
